America’s past was brought to life on the Siena College front lawn as the History Club presented “A Day of Living History.” The annual event, now in its fifth year, brings actors and history interpreters from the Capital Region and beyond to campus to share the country’s culture and history.

Siena students recently read their creative work as a part of a new course that challenges them to utilize literary elements from longer pieces and deliver in short stories ranging from 200 to 1,000 words.

With graduation and summer vacation approaching, Siena College economics majors were given a unique opportunity to speak with Siena alumni who shared their major at the first Economics Networking Event.

Many students become involved in the creative arts at Siena to complement their studies in the Schools of Liberal Arts, Science and Business. It provides a nice balance as well as an outlet for their creative energies.

Siena College’s Office of Academic Community Engagement (ACE) and The Bonner Foundation hosted Inspire 2013 earlier this month. More than 300 people from the northeast and beyond came together during the three-day conference to discuss topics related to social justice.

The English Department’s Greyfriar Living Literature Series recently welcomed author Julia Alvarez. The dynamic writer has received critical acclaim for her novels, poetry and essays.

Siena College hosted its 8th annual Relay for Life Relay for life in the Marcelle Athletic Complex earlier this month to help the American Cancer Society continue its fight against cancer. Students created teams online and worked together to raise money and awareness.

On April 17 Siena College hosted the Fifth Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium of the Eastern New York Chapter of the American Chemical Society (ACS). This year, 11 Siena students were selected to present their independent research projects conducted with Siena faculty over the past year.

A team of ten Siena College students with a strong acumen for investing have won a stock portfolio management competition called the Adirondack Cup. Students from 18 colleges and universities from throughout the northeast participated in the unique competition during which they spent the past six months creating and developing hypothetical small cap stock portfolios worth $1 million.

“I participate in Relay so people never have to hear the words, ‘you have cancer’ again,” stated Relay for Life Co-Chairperson Lauren Eversley ’13. The Siena College Relay for Life Gala was a formal affair that carried this hopeful message. It served as a prelude to Siena College’s annual Relay for Life on April 12.
