Siena College celebrated its Franciscan Tradition by honoring Saint Francis of Assisi, the friar who launched the order more than 800 years ago, with academic, spiritual and community-focused programming surrounding Francis’ Feast Day, October 4.

Light The Night

The battle against blood cancer came to Siena as the College hosted the Upstate New York /Vermont Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) annual Light The Night Walk. More than 1,200 walkers and 1,000 fundraising participants gathered on the College’s academic quad to honor people impacted by leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. The event raised more than $180,000.

Acting Ethically

Acting Ethically in the Economic Marketplace was the topic Siena President Fr. Kevin Mullen ’75, O.F.M., Ph.D. addressed as the keynote speaker at the inaugural Francis-can Focus Event on campus on Friday, Sept. 21. In celebration of the College’s 75th Anniversary, Fr. Russel Murray, O.F.M., director of the Franciscan Center for Service and Advocacy, organized the event in order to engage the Siena community in academic discussion outside of the classroom.

Constitution Day 2012

Law Professor and former Wall Street Journal Supreme Court Correspondent Stephen Wermiel, Esq., delivered his Constitution Day address to a capacitycrowd inside Siena College’s Sarazen Student Union earlier this month. Wermiel’s speech was titled “Reforming the Supreme Court: The Seventy-Five Year Journey from Court Packing to Today’s Proposals.”

Safety and Service Top of Mind

Siena College’s academic quad was filled with smoke during the annual Campus Safety day as the college sponsored several fire-safety drills, including hands-on fire extinguisher training and displays by the Shaker Road Loudonville Fire Department and the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control.The main event of the day was a live fire of a mock residence hall room. It showed students how quickly one of their rooms can go up in flames.
