Whether you have tons of interests you can't wait to dive into or you’re open to exploring all that Siena has to offer, starting Siena as an Undecided major is a great idea. You’ll have access to dedicated advising for Undecided majors, be able to take a wide variety of courses to help decide on a major, and give yourself some time to settle into college before taking the next step into your major field.
As an Undecided major, you’ll be taking coursework tailored to your interests and the areas you want to explore. You’ll be able to work with your academic advisor before starting your first year at Siena to make sure that you’re able to take courses in the first semester that will help you expand your knowledge of your major options.
We don't require you to declare a major until you reach 60 completed credits - which, for most students, is at the end of sophomore year. This means that you'll have up to two full years to explore your options, connect with your peers and professors in different academic programs, and learn more about yourself and your passions.
When you declare a major in a particular academic program or declare a major in Exploring Liberal Arts, Business, or Science, you will be matched with a faculty advisor in that area to guide you in content-specific courses for your major or school. You’ll also be connected with the resources, clubs, and specific events that the major or school has to offer.
While you're deciding on a major, you'll be able to explore what courses would be a good major fit for you while taking a mix of college core courses and electives, both of which will allow you to complete graduation requirements. Your academic advisor is there to help you choose the right courses for you!
