Dear Siena Saints,

I hope you all enjoyed the holidays to the fullest and found your break between semesters to be restful and invigorating. On behalf of the entire Siena community, welcome back! We are excited to begin anew and look forward to the many events and activities planned across our clubs and organizations, intramural and varsity sports programs, and major College celebrations including “Mr. Siena,” “Expozé,” “Sienafest,” and “Senior Days” for our graduates. The Siena experience delivers education and memories that you’ll carry for a lifetime. But to experience this to the fullest, you really need to be a joiner.

As we begin the new term, I encourage you to consider your goals and ambitions for the spring. Over the next few months, why not challenge yourself to try something different, go out of your way to meet new people, and take full advantage of the many opportunities available on campus? Here’s just one example: on Wednesday, January 25 at 7:00 p.m. in the Maloney Great Room we will be hosting the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. & Coretta Scott King Lecture on Race and Nonviolent Social Change. Award-winning author Tim Tyson will speak on “Love, Power, and Nonviolence.” I believe the focus of the speech will resonate with everyone, and I invite you to experience it with me.

Our men’s and women’s basketball teams are having tremendous seasons and I encourage you to join me at some of those games too. They are a lot of fun and your presence and energy really lift up our teams. Here’s a link to our full varsity athletics schedule, including the return of the “Gold Rush” games with the women hosting Rider Thursday, January 26 and the men squaring off against Iona on Friday, January 27 in a nationally televised game at MVP Arena featuring the top two teams in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). We had nearly a thousand students for last year’s men’s “Gold Rush” game and what great memories we have from that awesome win for the Saints!

In closing, I hope your Siena experience this semester is rich and joyful and reflective of the Siena spirit. I wish you all good health and prosperity.

Peace and all Good,

President Gibson
