Several Siena students and faculty received national recognition for their work in the theater program’s spring production of Hedda Gabler. They were recognized by the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival program.
“This is important because KCACTF is the organization that sets the bar for standards in college theatre in the US,” explained Assistant Professor of Theater Paul Ricciardi, MFA. "We're really thrilled."
Students Jennifer Cullen '13, Marah Chabot '12 and Kelsea Dineen '12 were nominated to participate in the 2012 Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship program. Dylan Lukowski '13 was nominated as the first alternate for Irene Ryans. Shayne Peris '15 was nominated as the second alternate for Irene Ryans. Caitlin Flaherty '12 was nominated to bring her stage management book to the 2013 festival.
Chair of the Creative Arts Department Denise Massman, MFA was recognized with a Certificate of Merit for outstanding costume design. Costumes featuring corsets, long skirts and bustles played a big part in the production, which takes place during the Victorian era. “It is a great honor to be recognized among colleagues from other schools in the Northeast region,” Massman said.
Referred by some critics as the story of a female Hamlet, Hedda Gabler is the tragic tale of a woman trapped in a troubled marriage. When she manipulates her husband to create the life she wants, she finds herself ill-prepared to face the results of her treachery.
