Since moving in, members of the Class of 2016 have hit the ground running. First-year students said that college has been different, but in a good way.
“The first week has been kind of hectic trying to find classes and stuff but it’s been very enjoyable,” said Jennie Lunny ’16. “Everyone’s been super nice! All the upperclassmen, all my classmates have been nice and open. I’m making a lot of friends.”
The annual Club Fair gave the new students a chance see all the clubs and service opportunities Siena has to offer. Although they may have come out to the club fair for the free tumbler cups provided by Student Senate, they stayed and signed up once they saw the possibilities.
“In high school, I was in one club and that was it so I want to try different things now and there’s so much to offer,” said Lindsay Blake ’16.
Blake signed up for a variety of activities, including rugby and Siena College Television, but added that she’s most excited about going to the basketball games as a member of the Dog Pound, Siena’s student cheering section.
Although most members of the class of 2016 are just beginning their involvement at Siena, some arrived on campus early for sports or service opportunities, and have already made great memories. Kate Bender ’16 is a Bonner Service Leader and has already bonded with the other members of the group.
“Bonner is a really good way to get involved in the Siena community. You’re helping out a lot of people locally which I like,” said Bender. “It’s honestly like a family. We’ve only known each other for two weeks and we’re already best friends.”
Bender added that there was a lot of anticipation getting here, and the Class of 2016 definitely seems to be enjoying its time at Siena, but is it everything they hoped it would be?
“It’s surpassed my expectations,” Jennie Lunny said.
Lindsay Blake added, “It’s been awesome. It’s way better than I expected it to be.”
Kate Bender went a step further and said, “It’s already been one of the best experiences of my life.”
Only time will tell what’s in store for the Class of 2016 in their time at Siena, but if these four years are anything like the first week, it’s safe to say they’ll leave the College with the education of a lifetime.
