Siena men’s lacrosse captain Tom Morr ’12 has been named a finalist for the 2012 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award. Morr is one of just 10 finalists nationally for this prestigious award and the only goalie on the list. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

In February, Morr was one of just 20 candidates selected in the original voting for the award along with Bryan Neufeld ’12. At that time, Siena and Duke were the only two programs in the country with multiple nominees.

This marks the third straight year in which Siena men’s lacrosse has had a candidate for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, but first time ever in which the program has had a finalist.

A native of Rockville Centre, N.Y., Morr is in his second season as a team captain. A Preseason All-MAAC selection, Morr has already been a three-time MAAC Defensive Player of the Week this season. Morr has posted a 10.79 goals against average and .543 save percentage between the pipes so far this year. He ranks fourth nationally averaging 12.67 saves per game.

Off the field, Morr has exemplified excellence in the areas of academics, community and character. In the classroom, Morr is a three-time MAAC All-Academic Team selection and holds a cumulative GPA of 3.41 while majoring in history.

Morr has played a vital role in the men's lacrosse program's active involvement year around in the "Saints in the Community" program. He and his teammates make several visits annually, cook dinner at the Ronald McDonald House, participate in the Center for Disability Services telethon and make a telethon donation while also answering phone calls and taking pledges. Last year, the event raised $1.96 million. Morr has also been active in working at youth leagues and lacrosse camps both in and around Siena and at home.

The finalists were chosen by a media committee from the list of 20 candidates announced in February. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to determine the winner. Fans are encouraged to vote on the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award website through May 14. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I men’s head coaches’ votes to determine the winner.

Lowe’s, an official Corporate Partner of the NCAA, will announce the Senior CLASS Award® winner during the 2012 NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Championship, which will be held May 26 and 28 in Boston.
