Siena College’s Spanish and French Education programs have been recognized by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The program is now accredited without condition for at least the next five years.
"NCATE re-accreditation means that we continue to meet the highest national standards in language education,” said School of Liberal Arts Dean Ralph Blasting, Ph.D. “Our graduates can begin their teaching careers knowing that they will serve their students well."
The Spanish and French Education programs met all the NCATE and American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) standards.
“Carolyn Malloy-Madrid, Ph.D., Nathalie Degroult, Ph.D. and the Modern Languages Department carry out a top notch program that has received the recognition it deserves. The collaboration between Education and Modern Languages Departments was noted in the strengths of the submission,” said Professor of Education Bob Colesante, Ph.D.
According to program reviewers, the strengths of the Spanish and French Education programs include their focus on language proficiency, the study abroad opportunities it provides and the allocation of human and technological resources for data management that are built in.
Reviewers also considered the teacher work samples excellent and said they show that candidates can assess their effects on student learning.
