Religious leaders from many denominations gathered today at Siena’s Peace Pole for an interfaith prayer service to observe the 35th annual International Day of Peace.
Prayers were offered by Capital Region clerics in the traditions of Hinduism, Sikhism, Judaism Catholicism, Islam and Buddhism, in the original languages of those religions. The leaders were joined by Siena students who spoke of their own faiths and their efforts to create a more just and peaceful society.
Peace Day was created by the United Nations General Assembly in 1981 to strengthen the ideals of peace within and among nations and peoples.
This event was sponsored by the Damietta Cross-Cultural Center, the Interfaith Council, the Muslim Students Association and the Chaplain's Office.
