Siena’s Student Senate and Franciscan Center for Service and Advocacy are joining forces to help feed the hungry.
They are running a food drive November 6-28, with all funds and non-perishable goods collected to be donated to Schenectady Community Ministries. Their goal is to collect more than 4,000 pounds of food.
Jonathan Limey ‘24 originally wanted to become involved after seeing the impact that the pandemic and inflation are having on the Schenectady area.
“While working at SiCM I have learned about the severe food injustice in our country and how it is growing rapidly every day,” he said. “As Saints it is our call to learn about this injustice, recognize its presence, and help out how we can.”
Zach MacCollum ’23 added, “Planning this food drive has been an excellent opportunity to fulfill the Franciscan mission of Siena. I hope this drive can be a statement of Siena's dedication to helping those in most need in the community.”
Want to help? Scan the QR with this article to make a monetary donation, or bring non-perishable goods to one of the collection boxes set out across campus: the Chapel, academic buildings, residence halls, SSU, MAC and College Suites. You can also mail a check to the Student Senate.
SiCM will make a couple runs to campus to pick up collected food items. Student volunteers will sort through the food and load up the SiCM truck. If you’re interested in helping out, pick up dates are November 19 and December 3.
To share with the Siena community the public health needs related to hunger and homelessness, a panel presentation featuring representatives from Siena, SiCM and other organizations will be held Thursday, Nov. 17 from 7-8:30PM in the UHY Center.
