My Siena Experience
My Teaching Philosophy
My teaching interests mainly revolve around connecting theory with reality. I believe every big idea starts with a simple idea and often simple ideas emerge from our daily lives. Economics is a social science where theory connects very intimately with reality. Avoiding either of these aspects will fail the purpose of teaching economics. Therefore, in my courses, I try to link day-to-day decisions with simple theory, often using a simple demand and supply framework. It is my experience that students gain a deeper understanding of an issue when they discuss it with their peers. Consequently, I encourage students to participate in class discussions and I provide projects and assignments.
What I Love About Siena
Best part of being a teacher is the ability to interact with students. At Siena due to its smaller class size and its emphasis on liberal arts education, I am able to develop deeper connection with my students. It's always fun to interact with students and having deeper conversation on various economic and social issues. Also, Siena as community is extremely supportive and collegial. Being a part of this community gives me a sense of belonging.
My Favorite Courses to Teach
I enjoy teaching principles of macroeconomics and microeconomics. Teaching these introductory classes is extremely refershing for me. Apart form these, I also enjoy teaching upper level Financial Crisis, History of Economic Doctrines and Economics of Discrimination.
