Quality research in social work is very important to the profession and allows social work professionals an opportunity to evaluate the effectiveness of the practice in which social workers engage and the programs they implement. Research allows social workers a way to develop new knowledge and aid in the creation of new policies and programs.

Independent Studies
Independent Study courses allow students to work on topics of their choosing under the supervision of a faculty member. Independent Study courses provide students with in-depth learning opportunities that involve private consultation with the advisor and independent research. The courses are listed under each department and require a proposal approved by the faculty member, the Department Chair, and the Dean.
Hottspotting
An opportunity for students to provide hands-on individualized interventions with patients with complex social and health care needs, by identifying super utilizers or individuals who are frequent hospital visits or admissions. Students will have opportunity to present their research at the academic showcase.
