The
Biology Department Equipment
Shared equipment housed in the Biology Department includes:
- ABI Prism 310 Genetic Analyzer
- Miniopticon real-time PCR system (BioRad). This system is comprised of a 48-well MJ Mini™ thermal cycler equipped with a two-color detection system and a PC equipped with software for data acquisition and analysis.
- Gene Amp PCR System 97000 Thermal Cycler (Perkin Elmer)
- T100 Thermal Cycler (Bio-Rad)
- Bio-Rad Molecular Imager, Chemidoc XRS Imaging System. This system is capable of imaging chemiluminescent, fluorescent and colorimetric samples. This system includes a compact darkroom, transilluminator and a supercooled high resolution 1.44 megapixel CCD camera. This is attached to a PC computer equipped with the Quantity One 1-D analysis software for data acquisition and analysis. This is used for imaging ethidium bromide stained gels
- Nikon Ti-S compound inverted microscope equipped for DIC and fluorescence
- Digital microscopy workstations are available during the summer months. Each workstation is equipped with a Gateway computer that is linked to a Nikon TS100 Microscope with phase and fluorescence optics, a Sony DXC-390 CCD color camera, a Scion Corporation CG-7 frame grabber board and software, and a 17-inch high-resolution monitor.
- Leica CMI3000 inverted microscope equipped with DIC optics and microinjection
