We partner with nonprofits and the public sector to develop and share educational programming about the history of New York State and colonial and Revolutionary America. Our educational practices are student-centered and civic minded. We provide Siena students with personally meaningful leadership and learning opportunities that advance history education and prepare them for life, work and active citizenship. Our students learn history and make history!
Background
Siena College's McCormick Center for the Study of the American Revolution was originally founded as the Center for Revolutionary Era Studies in 2005. It is the invention of Siena College faculty and education professionals at Saratoga Battlefield. Together, we wanted to build an agency that would promote awareness about New York history and especially, the significant contributions of New Yorkers to the fight for American Independence and the early American Republic.
From its beginning, CRES was meant to be both an academic program and an outreach initiative. It would serve students, but it would also serve the greater community. All of our work and initiatives would be done in partnership with museum, public history and preservation professionals in the Capital Region.
