Make an appointment today to discuss the many scholarship opportunities available to help make your study abroad dream a reality. From small grants available through your local Rotary Club, to nationally-competitive scholarships, to aid and assistance from your chosen study abroad program, there is money out there!

common study abroad scholarships

  • Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship - Funding up to $5,000 for students who are recipients of a Federal Pell Grant. Preference given to students who study in non-traditional locations (such as Africa, Asia and Latin America) as well as Gilman partner locations (France, Germany, New Zealand and Portugal).   • Boren Scholarship for International Study - Funding up to $10,000 to study in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad, in exchange for the student's commitment to seek work in the federal government. Boren promotes long-term linguistic and cultural immersion; therefore, proposals for two or more semesters are preferred.
  • Bridging Scholarships - Supplemental funding from the Association of Teachers Bridging Project for study abroad programs in Japan.
  • BUTEX Scholarships - Funding of £500 for students spending a semester or academic year at a BUTEX-affiliated university in the United Kingdom (including LSE, University of Glasgow, University of Roehampton and Queen's University).
  • Diverse International Women of Color Scholarship - Provides funding to assist women of color who are exceptional in their studies and in need of financial assistance to study abroad in the summer
  • Freeman-ASIA Scholarship - Provides funding for U.S. students with demonstrated financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia.
  • Fund for Education Abroad Scholarships - General and dedicated scholarships for summer, semester, or academic year study abroad.
  • Rotary District Grants - Your local Rotary Club may have funds available to support your study abroad plans. Start at the above link, and then take the time to get in touch with the members of your local Club.

Certain study abroad organizations offer their own scholarships and aid to students engaging in their programs. Typically, students would apply for these at the same time they apply to their program. Take a look at our list below and speak to your Study Abroad Advisor about potential aid offered through your study abroad program.
