TEACHING-FOCUSED PROGRAMS


Fulbright U.S. Student Program

Fulbright is the U.S. government's flagship international educational exchange program and is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. With participants chosen for their academic and leadership potential, grantees have the opportunity to study, teach, conduct research, exchange ideas, and contribute to finding solutions to shared global problems. If you're interested in learning more about the Fulbright Program, contact Matt Schiesel (mschiesel@siena.edu), the Fulbright Program Advisor for Siena College.

Japan exchange and teaching programme (jet)

Aimed at promoting grassroots international exchange between Japan and other nations, the JET Programme recruits approximately 2,000 new JET participants every year to come to Japan and work as: Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) who provide language instruction in elementary, junior, and senior high schools; Coordinators for International Relations (CIRs) who work in communities on international exchange activities; or Sports Exchange Advisors (SEAs) who promote international exchange through sports.

NORTH AMERICAN LANGUAGE AND CULTURE ASSISTANTS PROGRAM (NALCAP)

NALCAP offers recipients the opportunity to immerse themselves in the language and culture of Spain while sharing the language and culture of the United States and experiencing growth on a personal level. Participants partner with elementary and secondary schools across Spain to bolster language programs and act as language assistants (TAs) for 12-16 hours per week under the supervision and guidance of teachers in Spain. Awardees receive a monthly stipend and medical insurance throughout their academic year of teaching and living in Spain.

TAPIF offers students the opportunity to work in France for 7 months, teaching English to French students of all ages. Each year, over 1,500 American citizens and permanent residents teach in public schools across all regions of metropolitan France and in the overseas departments of France such as French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Réunion. Following participation in the program, TAPIF alumni pursue global careers in education, international business, public health, international policy and development, arts and culture administration, among other fields.

GRADUATE STUDY-FOCUSED PROGRAMS


Marshall Scholarship

Marshalls finance young Americans of high ability to study for a degree in the United Kingdom. Up to 40 scholars are selected each year to study at the graduate level at a UK institution in any field of study. As future leaders with a lasting understanding of British society, Marshall Scholars strengthen the enduring relationship between the British and American peoples, their governments, and their institutions.

Mitchell Scholars Program

Sponsored by the U.S.-Ireland Alliance, the Mitchell Scholars Program is designed to introduce and connect generations of future American leaders to the island of Ireland, while recognizing and fostering intellectual achievement, leadership, and a commitment to public service and community. Up to 12 Mitchell Scholars between the ages of 18 and 30 are chosen annually for a year of postgraduate study in any discipline offered by institutions of higher learning in Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Rhodes Scholarship

The Rhodes Scholarship, the oldest international fellowship, was initiated after the death of Cecil Rhodes in 1902, and brings outstanding students from many countries around the world to the University of Oxford in England. Rhodes Scholars are chosen not only for their outstanding scholarly achievements, but for their character, commitment to others and to the common good, and for their potential for leadership in their careers.

saint andrew's scholarship for graduate study in scotland

The Saint Andrew's Society of the State of New York annually awards three scholarships to support graduate study for one year in Scotland. Candidates must be of Scottish descent and awards can be used for graduate degrees in a variety of fields, such as law, finance, journalism, education and the arts.

Truman Scholarship

As the living memorial to our 33rd President, the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation supports graduate education and professional development of outstanding young people committed to public service leadership. Since its creation in 1975, the Foundation has supported almost 3,000 Truman Scholars who are making a difference in all corners of the nation and around the world. Each year, the Foundation reviews over 600 applications for 55 to 65 scholarships.
