TEACH A COMMUNITY ENGAGED CLASS
Community engaged courses (classes with the ACOM attribute) help students and faculty become more involved in the Capital District while getting real world experience and research opportunities. Faculty can bring their own ideas or collaborate with ACE to teach a community engaged course. Creating an ACOM course is open to all faculty members - contact Sarah Toledano or Dr. Ruth Kassel for more information.
GET INVOLVED REGIONALLY
Faculty who are doing community engaged work can join the Community Campus Collaborative (CCC) - a council of 10 regional colleges and universities that plan professional development opportunities for faculty. The CCC also coordinates the C.R.E.S.T. Fellowship a regional fellowship of educators focused on community engagement. Learn more about the CCC and The C.R.E.S.T. Fellowship.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES FROM ACE
ACE hosts several engagement opportunities for faculty who are doing community engaged work on our own campus each semester.
- ACE hosts lunches around midterms and finals each semester for faculty to share best practices and form a community.
- Between the Fall and Spring semesters, ACE hosts faculty workshops focused on professional development and deepening partnership.
- In May, the annual Engage for Change conference is held on Siena's campus - a time for faculty to showcase their work throughout the academic year.
- In June, ACE hosts a faculty retreat to discuss research opportunities and deepen community.
Combined with the wealth of opportunities from the CCC there are a myriad of ways for faculty to get involved with community engaged work.
WHY COLLABORATE WITH ACE?
Faculty partnering with the ACE office get access to many different resources
- SPIN - Design a Siena Project Incubator (SPIn) project! With the goal of concrete deliverables, many SPIn projects create opportunities to research and publish. ACE assists with CURCA applications and coordinates payments to student workers through either CURCA or Americorps VISTA, this allows the faculty member to focus solely on research and publishing.
- C.R.E.S.T/ Community Engaged Teaching - Become a C.R.E.S.T. Fellow and receive help with designing and implementing a community engaged course.
- Explore the Capital Region - Enjoy a bus tour to local community partners, explore how faculty have partnered with ACE partners in the past, and how you can take your community engaged work to the next level. The event happens each February.

Become a Faculty Mentor!
NExT Panel of Mentors
Join a panel of Faculty mentors to help students during their semester-long consultant internships.
- NExT stands for Nonprofit Excellence and Transformation. This a student led consulting firm for nonprofits that focuses on data analysis, program assessment, marketing and communications, and policy research.
- The faculty mentor receives a stipend for the semester they are a mentor. The faculty member is required to attend three Wednesday night NExT Classes a semester (1 per month) to hear the team presentations.The faculty member will also be responsible for meeting with the project team at least twice a semester to provide specific feedback on the project.
Bonner Capstone Faculty Mentor
Work with Bonner students while they develop/implement/pursue their capstone project.
- The faculty mentor receives a stipend for the semester they are a mentor. The faculty member will meet one-on-one weekly with the student during the course of their project and provide specific feedback. The capstone faculty mentor is responsible for the student's grade.
